The club members were welcomed by the President to our new meeting space, courtesy of the Leaside Retirement Residence. Amanda Gordon, who was unfortunately not able to attend, is our staff liaison and has coordinated the availability of this space. We have also been invited to, at our discretion, set up a station on the 4th floor of the building in a room roughly the size of the OSC shack.
The Minutes of the May meeting were read by the Secretary. A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Bill RYE, seconded by Ori XW. Carried.
Business arising from the minutes:
A cheque was mailed to the Hammond Radio Museum on behalf of the membership to thank them for their hospitality on our tour.
The Roundhouse Train Museum: Due to the Mirvish production that has temporarily turned the facility into a theatre, Ori XW suspects that we are out of luck for setting up an event station this year. He noted that they have expressed interest in our offer, however, so perhaps next year we can mount a more successful campaign.
President’s Report:
Neil reported that he has booked Jeffrey Stewart, VA3WXM, the Ontario South Director of RAC to speak at our next meeting.
Neil donated a pair of amplified speakers for use at club meetings.
Secretary’s Report/ Treasury Report:
- no changes or reports
Field Day
An open discussion about field day was undertaken by the members present. The OSC generously dropped their usual $1000 rental fee for the South Parking Area to $0, but the club will still be required to provide proof of insurance for $2M of liability coverage. Neil found a short-term policy to cover field day for $156, plus a $1000 deductible.
The OSC has advised the club that it does not consider FD to be a suitable event for OSC visitors, and as such they to not sanction it as an official event.
After some discussion, the idea of carrying the liability insurance in order to hold an event where we are somewhat unwelcome in the first place was dismissed. Jeff PRX offered to hold the FD events at his house. A motion to accept the offer was put by Neil NGS, seconded by Ori XW and carried.
A motion to have John JE coordinate FD events was made by Neil NGS, seconded by Jay EMP, and carried. Jeff PRX and John JE will work closely to coordinate the effort.
Ham courses:
The question of offering a course through the club was discussed. Members interested in teaching include: SUG, SB, RYE, XW, EMP, JE. Ori XW indicated he would be happy to be the examiner.
Break from 2111- 2126. Thanks to Jean WAD for supplying the snacks!

Show and Tell

- David SB brought his software-defined radio to demo, but had some trouble. Demo deferred to next meeting!
Following the business meeting a Motion to adjourn was made by Jeff PRX, seconded by Neil NGS. Carried at 2141EDT
