Reading the mail on VA3ATL, there appears to be some hand wringing over how to implement remote operation of a field day station.
Technically, not a problem. Easy to do using off the shelf radios, transceiver VOX, a pair of TNCs, and some RS232/C cabiling.
- Control the station usiing hamlib over a digital link, ie 1200 baud packet.
- Pass RX + TX audio over a analog link.
All amateurs have access to bands with MHz of bandwidth that are low noise and not utilized by hams (QRM free). This spectrum is ideally suited for analog or digital comms.
